Poirier XNO Katee Purebred Canadian Mare Registration Number: 6166 Canada’s National Horse - The Canadian Made with Xara Poirier XNO Katee Born: June 24, 1993 Sire: Poirier Coco XNO Dam: Poirier Eno Unique Hawk Hill Bandit Lucan Mirage Katee is our foundation broodmare and the soul of our farm.  She is traditional in her conformation with tremendous bone, stunning head and neck and a powerful front and hind end.  She is everything we wanted in a broodmare. Not only was she easy  to get in foal, she was a wonderful mother and threw stunning foals with her easy nature. We have had four foals out of Katee: Hawk Hill Bandit Lucan, Hawk Hill Wilfrid Morgana Le Fey, Hawk Hill Wilfrid Pendragon and Hawk Hill Duc Rune. Her first son,  Lucan, classified excellent as a yearling stallion.  Lucan’s daughter “ Hawk Hill Lucan Rhapsody” took Reserve Champion Filly as a yearling at the Ontario Canadian breed show in Orono. Katee’s most recent son, Hawk Hill Duc Rune, was First Place Yearling Gelding at the Ontario Canadian Breed Show in Orono.   Katee is 18 years old and is enjoying a break from her role as a mother.  We are open to contract breeding to Katee. Cosyland Wilfrid Lilac Purebred Canadian Mare Registration Number: 8970 Hawk Hill Bandit Lucan Purebred Canadian Gelding Registration Number: Mirage - Canadian/Arabian Cross Mare Cosyland Wilfrid Lilac Born: May 8, 2001 Sire: Quebecois Lalou Wilfrid 5201 Dam: Voligny Romano Urfa 5068 Born: May 24, 1997 Sire: Rainville Wilfrid Star (Canadian Herd Book 5785) Dam: Mirriamne Bint Om (Arabian Horse Registry 23977) Born: June 20, 2001 Sire: Cosyland Remi Bandit 4957 Dam: Poirier XNO Katee 6166 Mirage is a flashy bright bay- a real head-turner. She is a prime example at how well Canadians cross with other breeds. She is an intelligent horse with incredible confidence and has matured into a sensible, level- headed mare. Despite taking several breaks to have foals, she steps back into work without hesitation.  We were told by a well respected trainer to NEVER sell this mare... and we will not. After having two foals, Mirage was retired from our breeding program and we are using her for riding and driving.  MIrage is Bob's mount and driving horse. Lilac is a full sister to J P Casselman Wilfrid Dazzler, Rainville Wilfrid Star and the 2005 Canadian Horse Show @ Orono Grand Champion Filly Cosyland Wilfrid Natasha. Lilac’s conformation and movement will make her an ideal dressage candidate.  She has a real presense and a huge floating trot. Lilac was started under saddle and harness and we will continue her training. We are open to contract breeding with this mare. Despite breeders interest in Lucan's type and temperament, he was under utilized as a stallion.  We made the difficult decision to have him castrated in December 2008.  He is happily out with his herd of 3 mares.  Lucan is handsome with exceptional temperament and both he and his progeny are sport pony type. He classified Excellent at 80 points as a yearling scoring 9 out of 10 for bone, neck, breast, withers and croup. He had no scores below 7. He measures just under 14.3 hands. Luc was trained to drive by Randy Bird in 2003 and  was trained under saddle by Reuben Geleynse during the winter of 2010.  Luc is Laurie's mount and driving horse  The Canadian Horse While some people raise Canadians because they want to preserve a rare breed and the National Horse of Canada, there are other more practical reasons for owning a Canadian.  Canadian horses are sturdy, hardy, strong, easy keepers, that rarely having health or soundness problems and are even tempered.   It is a multipurpose breed that has excelled at many disciplines including driving, dressage, trail riding, herding cattle, logging, jumping, vaulting etc. An article in the May 2005 Equus on "Buying or Building an Ideal Trail Horse" by Dan Aadland recommended looking for a horse with: good feet good bone (at least 7 inch cannons for a 1,000lb horse) short back deep from withers to sternum moderate slope on the shoulder sensible temperament able to be mounted without a block While Mr. Aadland may not even know about the Canadian horse and does not recommend any specific breed in his article, most of the conformational features in his ideal trail horse can be found in a Canadian horse.  The same can be said for someone describing an ideal driving horse and so on.  The Canadian is the "Little Iron Horse that Can!"
