Horse-Quality Hay Your Eastern Ontario source for horse quality hay.  We have 60 acres of cropland in hay, 20 acres of which was reseeded four years ago to a mix of 70% timothy, 20% alfalfa and 10% while clover.  Since we have horses, we understand how critical it is to have clean, dust-free hay that is predominately grass.  Where possible we cut in the morning to reduce sugar levels in the harvested hay for the horse hay. We actually will be doing the opposite for hay for our sheep and cattle. We monitor the weather constantly and only cut the quantity of hay at one time that we can get under cover rain free.  All our hay is guaranteed dust free.  If you should open a bale that is dusty, we will replace it, no questions asked. Our feeling is that the weather we have had for the last three summers may be the norm for several more years.  Therefore in 2012 we will be trying to harvest in the clear window that have come to expect in early June setting us up for a second cut in August. That will reduce volume but should make for a higher protein hay without sacrificing quality. 2012 Hay Sales Starting in 2011 we will only be producing small square bales by special order in small batches ie under 200 bales. The price will be set at the beginning of the season. Contact us for the 2012 prices.  All orders must be received by July 8th. FYI Hay purchased by the single round bale or by small square bales less than 33 bales is subject to HST. Likewise round bales will be available in 2012 by special order only. We will no longer be maintaining an inventory of small and large round bales for sale. Our crop land is going to be rotated into small grain crops before reseeding to hay over the next several years. Our future plantings will be predominately brome with other small grasses.  We will no longer be focusing on timothy hay since  quality and palatability deteriorates with maturity.  We are going to switch from alfalfa as our main legume to birds foot trefoil.
